VOLUNTEER WITH US
Whether you are an individual with a passion for helping others or with an organization that wants to give back to the community, the OKCPS Foundation offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for you!
Learn more about our volunteer opportunities:
Join us on the bus at any school within the OKCPS district and help students pick out one free book to add to their home library! Volunteers have the autonomy to sign-up for shifts that fit their schedule, no minimum hours required. They must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach. In this role, you will assist students with finding their favorite book, engage in conversation about literacy, and encourage students to enjoy their new book! You will also ensure that book bus visits run smoothly to put a new book in the hands of each OKCPS student!
This opportunity does not work with children directly, however, it is one of the most important jobs! Our book buses cannot give out free books if there are no books on the buses! Plus, if organizing and sorting is a strength of yours, you will love our book bus room. Volunteers must be able to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach. In this role, you may unpack boxes of books, organize book shelves in room or bus, help choose books to add to our bus shelves, restock & tidy buses, or organize/sort bookmarks, stickers, and volunteer shirts.
This opportunity is a WEEKLY commitment during the school year, engaging with a small group of students to encourage the love of reading and creating a safe space for them to be themselves. Volunteers need to be consistent, punctual, friendly, and a listening ear. They do NOT need to have an education background or degree. Volunteers are there as facilitators—to support students as they practice their reading. A training session for this volunteer opportunity is required. In this role, you will help students increase their self-esteem and improve attitudes toward reading with the ultimate goal of helping students strengthen their reading proficiency.
Our Foundation holds several key events each year. From time-to-time, our small team could use extra helping hands.
